Sipping tea and nibbling on scones is an especially feminine pastime, reminiscent of elegant ladies, sumptuous interiors, hushed voices and raised pinkies.
I do like to partake in such a scenario myself on occasion, with a preference for a cup of Earl Grey at The Tea Room, Queen Victoria Building, Sydney.
However there are some fabulous kid-focussed high teas around, like Tale as Old as Time high tea in London and the Sing high tea we enjoyed in Melbourne recently. (Smurfs coming up next school hols!)

Tale as Old as Time high tea, Town House at The Kensington, London
These high teas are a perfect excuse to take the kids to grand venues and hope for their best behaviour. Although I don’t get too fussed about what they want to wear, I do like to take the opportunity to dress up myself.

A beautiful dress, like the Gorman one above, is a perfect option for what to wear to a high tea. But it’s not always the most versatile. If you’re travelling, then you mostly need more casual clothes for all that exploring, so, rather than packing a high tea dress that you only wear once or twice, a skirt and top combo gives many more outfit options.
What to wear to a high tea
1 French Connection Foil spot bomber jacket
2 Chicwish Floral explosion midi skirt
3 Boho Bird Sugar snaps tank
4 Wittner Valery wedge
5 Country Road Aaliyah sling
Re-work for sightseeing
For everyday sightseeing pair the skirt with a simple tank and flat shoes (LOVE the punk twist to these ballet flats), and the singlet with some shorts and sneakers.
More midi skirts
A silky tank and small heel would transform any of these gorgeous midi skirts into the perfect high tea outfit. An stylish alternative to a high tea dress.
1 Katies Bias cut skirt
2 Forever New Bailey midi skirt
3 Chicwish Voyage midi skirt
4 Boden Lola skirt
5 Chicwish Retro peony midi skirt
6 Asos Pimkie pleated midi skirt
7 Seed Gingham full skirt
8 Country Road Flared striped skirt
9 St Frock Chasing Kate Vanessa skirt
