What to pack for a cool weekend + tips for Canberra

I found once my kids were into the preschool-primary school years it became more fun to get away for a long weekend. There’s not so much equipment that needs transporting and they are physically more capable of exploring on foot. The hardest part about getting away these days is what to do with our dog!

So, let’s say you’ve got a long weekend break coming up. Why don’t we say you’re going to Canberra for the June long weekend? The temperature will most likely be around 14 degrees during the day and 2 degrees at night.

What is in your suitcase?

1. Sussan Fur Trim Anorak | 2. Katies Quilted PU Biker | 3. Country Road Long Sleeve Cardigan | 4. Country Road Roll Neck Slim Knit | 5. Witchery Zipper Hem V Neck Knit | 6. Bohemian Traders Summer T Shirt Dress | 7. Target Spot Print Shirt | 8. Rubi Shoes Jess Biker Boot | 9. Seed Ocelot Legging | 10. Seed Slouch Animal Beanie | 11. Country Road Check Gloves | 12. Sussan Classic Tee | 13. Birdsnest Isle of Mine Necklace | 14. Seed Fringed Snood | 15. French Connection Belt | 16. Country Road Nissa Zip Sling | 17. The Hunted Scarf | 18. Target Dark Vintage Skinny Jeans

Despite the cold, Canberra is a brilliant destination with kids, because it has some of the most amazing indoor activities all in one central spot, like Questacon, National Museum of Australia, National Gallery of Australia (there’s a fantastic Family Activity Room open whenever there’s a special exhibition on) and the Australian War Memorial. Not to mention awesome playgrounds like the National Arboretum.

So I say layers is the key, because you’ll be freezing outside, but warm inside.

There are lots more permutations and combinations available from this wardrobe depending on the weather, the activities you have planned and your mood.

If you’re looking for somewhere to stay, check out the East Hotel for the most jaw-droppingly cool-for-kids apartment ever. Or for a more budget-friendly option, we found the Alivio Tourist Park well located if you have a car.

Just make sure you take some warm jarmies!

Will you be getting away for the June long weekend?
