I like to think of a high tea as a great excuse to dress up and have a girly get-together. Or, more recently, an excellent way to enjoy luxurious surrounds and a more formal dining environment with my kids.
I’ve indulged in two wonderful high teas in the last few months. The first was to meet up with a beautiful group of blogging friends. We had been studying together on-line and we celebrated our graduation by meeting IRL for a delicious high tea at The Tea Room at the Queen Victoria Building in Sydney.
The second was The Smurfs High Tea at The Langham in Melbourne that I wrote more about here. I particularly enjoyed this special school holiday outing and will be seeking out other high teas to take the kids to in the future. After all, many of the fanciest venues in the world offer Children’s High Tea, including Claridge’s in London and The Russian Tea Room in New York. And what a truly memorable event that would be.
As you can see, I took the opportunity on both occasions to embrace the fit-and-flare look. Mostly because it’s the most flattering look for my body.
A beautiful dress, like the Boden one above, is a perfect option for a high tea. But it’s not always the most versatile. If you’re travelling, then you mostly need more casual clothes for all that exploring, so, rather than packing a dress that you only wear once or twice, a skirt and top combo, like my Smurfs outfit, gives many more outfit options.
The top and bag can then be re-worked for a comfortable travelling outfit –
1. Miss Kelly necklace
2. As before
3. As before
4. Saltwater sandals
5. St Frock lounge pants
And just add a t-shirt to take your skirt sightseeing –
Which skirt is your fav?
Have you done a high tea that you’ve loved?
