Hubster’s parents are of the grey nomad variety and every year escape the Melbourne winter by heading north. We first stayed at Oscar on Main because it is located directly behind the beachfront caravan park where they make their temporary home. But we keep going back because we love it!

View from our balcony. That’s the caravan park down below.
This visit, our third or fourth stay at Oscar On Main, we had a wonderful apartment on the 20th floor. Described as 2 Bedroom Ocean View. Stunning view, heaps of space, beautifully fitted out. Like many Gold Coast apartment hotels, the apartments are individually owned, so they are all decorated differently. However, the property managers seem to do well in enforcing a high quality of furnishings throughout.
The size of the apartments is brilliant. This is not a shoebox that you put up with. You could truly live in one of these.
The balcony was also very generous in size with sun lounges and a dining setting. I highly recommend soaking up the view as the sun goes down with something cold and refreshing in hand.
There is the obligatory outdoor pool and tennis court, but our trips to the Goldie tend to be in winter for a blast of sunshine with endless days at the theme parks, so we’ve never tried them out. The indoor pool however has been such a blessing. Especially while the kids were little and got cold in the water quickly. This pool is a lovely temperature and the spa on the left in the photo below is like a bath. We have usually had the place to ourselves and spent many happy hours all in the spa together chatting while the kids play.
Main Beach is a very convenient location about 3km north of Cavill Avenue. We prefer being away from the madness of Surfers, but you still have endless cafes and restaurants a short walk away in Tedder Ave. And being north of Surfers you are that bit closer to the theme parks if that is on your agenda.
Booking tip – Always check their own website as well as Wotif and so forth. If Wotif is cheaper, they will generally match it, but I usually find their own website is cheaper.
