TripAdvisor recently released their 2015 Travellers’ Choice Top 10 Hotels for Families – Fiji. But how do you choose the best place to stay in Fiji with kids? The one which is right for your family?
How to choose the best place to stay in Fiji with kids
Key to this decision are location and child-minding services. Do you picture yourself on a tropical island in the middle of the ocean or do you want to minimize travel time? Would you like a complimentary full-time nanny or do you want to see the “real” Fiji?
For an introduction to all aspects of a Fiji holiday, read A beginner’s guide to Fiji holidays with kids.
Firstly, Nadi (pronounced Nandi) is where you fly into in Fiji. It is about 4 hours flight from Sydney.
Out of the Top 10 resorts, 3 are in Denarau (20 min drive from Nadi airport), 3 are on the Coral Coast (south coast – 1.25 hr drive from Nadi airport), 2 are in the Mamanuca Islands (1.25 hr boat trip from Denarau) and 2 are on outlying islands.
Location
Location is an important factor since you may not be keen on spending another 1.25hr+ in a car or boat after surviving a longish flight with your kids. Hence the huge popularity of Denarau – the super easy option, with restaurants, shops and supermarket available at Port Denarau.
If you’d like a more peaceful environment for a holiday that’s big on relaxation, the Coral Coast resorts are ideal. Everything is at your fingertips, so there’s no need to even leave the resort!
However, the beaches are not great on the main island. Many families choose to stay on a small island like the Mamanucas to get that real tropical island holiday feel with wonderful beaches.
If you’re keen for a more unique experience, then have a look at Levuka or Jean-Michel Cousteau. A homestay like Levuka gives you the opportunity to see more of the “real” Fiji. While at Jean-Michel Cousteau each child gets their own full-time nanny for free! They will take care of your child for as long as you like or accompany you on excursions. Definitely a bonus if your kids are too young for kids clubs.

Fiji kids clubs
One of the main attractions of these fabulous Fiji resorts are the wonderful kids clubs and nanny services that they offer. After location, child-minding facilities may well be your next deciding factor in finding the best place to stay in Fiji with kids. The Kids Clubs are often free for guests, but a key difference is at what age the kids can attend by themselves. And if your kids are too young to go alone, then you may want to hire a nanny.
Of course there are many more wonderful resorts in Fiji, but let’s use these as examples.
