Tie Waist Dresses are my latest and favourite shopping discovery. I found the Sportsgirl one (5 below) a few weeks ago, included it in What to Pack for Hong Kong and promptly fell in love with it. It snuck into my wardrobe soon after and has more than proved its place there! It has quickly become my go-to dress for pretty much any occasion.
Need something casual and comfortable? Tie waist with sneaks.
Going over to a friend’s for a BBQ? Tie waist with denim jacket and sneaks.
And continue layering.
You could wear it with anything from sandals in summer (for a sleeveless version), to leggings, flat boots, long line cardi, anorak and woolly scarf in winter. You could even dress it up with heeled boots and leather jacket.
It is the perfect base layer and therefore ideal for travel. Neutral but not boring.

Here are some of the gorgeous versions you’ll find in the shops at the moment. The Sportsgirl one (5) is sold out online, but I found mine in store. I’ve linked to a very similar dress that would also layer very well.

5 Ways to Style a Tie Waist Dress
1. Simple with sneaks
I bought mine to layer up as the weather gets cool, but with the gorgeous sunny days we’ve been having in Sydney, I tried it out on its own. Mine is a size larger than I would normally wear (L instead of M) to reduce the cling-factor, and I feel great in it!
And when in doubt, add denim –
Liverpool Jacket – Witchery Dress – Converse
2. Rug up against the cold
Katies Soft trench – Witchery Dress – Forever New Scarf – I Love Billy Boots
3. Go khaki crazy
Sussan Jacket – Witchery Dress – French Connection Scarf – Target Leggings – Ko Fashion Boots
4. Doll up for dinner
5. Inner city groove
Table Eight Vest – Witchery Dress – Rare Rabbit Necklace – Django & Juliette Lace-ups
