Are you counting down to a mid-year getaway? Heading north to escape winter for a week or two? Whether it’s Queensland or Fiji, Bali or Vanuatu, it is heavenly to leave the cold behind and feel the sun on your skin.
It is around this time of year that we have often gone to Fiji. Sadly not this year, but if I was lucky enough to be heading there soon, then this is what would be inside my dream suitcase. Much of it is sourced from European online stores like Boden and Next, since there’s limited summer pretties in the shops at the moment. It’s very handy being able to buy so easily from the other side of the world, but just make sure you allow plenty of time for them to get to you!
I could probably do 8 days away with this selection, although practicality would mean that I would have to take a few warmer things for the travel days and in case of cool evenings. And of course a swimsuit or two would be useful! I would keep (1) for dinners a deux, then just rotate through the other four. (5) could easily be worn with any of the flats for maximum comfort.

1 A romantic dinner
Book a babysitter and pack some heels, a holiday is the perfect time to reconnect with your partner over a glass of wine or two. This Boden outfit is full of retro femininity and will have you batting your eyelashes at your loved one, rather than tearing your hair out over the kids – Boden Vintage bow dress and Boden Alice high heels.
2 Pool time with the kids
Not strictly a dress, but a playsuit makes an ideal coverup. Perhaps it will mostly be left with your towel while you play with the kids in the water. Or maybe you will be looking chic and pretty on a sun lounge while you immerse yourself in a book – Sheike Geometry playsuit and Nine West Flyby slides.
3 A cocktail in the sun
Find yourself a beachside bar and enjoy something cool and refreshing as the sun goes down. If the kids are still happy playing on the sand, then why not have another? – Boden Hattie dress and Soludos Classic sandal.
4 A walk along the beach
There’s something so relaxing about walking along the beach, especially early in the day before it gets too busy. Whether you’re discussing something deep and meaningful with your partner or in contented silence, it’s an opportunity for reflection and slowing the pace (while the kids race around madly) – Next Navy pom pom maxi dress and Saltwater Sandals.
5 Browsing in the local market
If you feel you really must leave your resort, then a wander around a local market totally counts as exercise. Leave your runners at home, pop on a pretty dress and hunt for something special – Boden Sandra sundress and Wittner Coopers heels.
